“If one really wishes to know how justice is administered in a country, one does not question the policemen, the lawyers, the judges, or the protected members of the middle class. One goes to the unprotected — those, precisely, who need the law’s protection most! — and listens to their testimony.”
~James Baldwin
What is the Triangle Legal Foundation?
The Triangle Legal Foundation is a nonprofit organization that offers free legal support to low-income residents of Multnomah County who can't afford legal services on their own. Our main event is the Triangle Legal Clinic, a monthly clinic that focuses on the legal issues facing transgender individuals and sex workers.
During our clinic days, volunteer attorneys, paralegals, and other service providers offer free, limited-scope legal help with matters like:
Changing names and gender markers
End-of-life planning for chosen families
Designating medical representatives
Model releases and legal compliance for adult content creators (in partnership with Collab Campfire)
General business advice for sex workers
Since trans individuals and sex workers often face significant income disparities compared to the general population, we're always looking to partner with other organizations that can provide additional free services, such as mental health services, and help with criminal record relief and tenant rights issues.
